DD does not actually graduate high school until the 29th, but her last day was yesterday. Since then it seems a switch has been flipped and she is already in a “I’m all grown up” mode. Three nights in a row she has been out after midnight without a clear answer of who she is with and/or when she’ll be home. Thursday she came home from a party drunk (no driving). That has never happened. This is a kid who never had a curfew because she never showed that she needed one — always came home at a reasonable hour. This is a kid who avoided parties with alcohol because she didn’t want to ruin her high school career with an MIP (Minor In Possession).

I’m not really worried, I guess I am more startled than anything. It seems like a drastic change in behavior. Several days ago she did tell me it was 90-some days until she moves into the dorms. Guess she is really ready to leave the nest at the tender age of 17.

After graduation she will spend 3 weeks in Germany, which I think will be a life-changing experience, as international travel usually is. Not on her own but with an exchange group from her school. She has already informed me that she plans to break every rule of the program without getting sent home!

I’m so glad she has all these wonderful experiences ahead of her. But I’m gonna miss the kid!

I used a viewbox on a snorkel trip on the Big Island several years ago. I wore a life jacket and held the viewbox on the surface of the water. It was a clear glass thing with handles, sort of like a tray, and it worked great. It was on the Fair Wind boat and they provided it.
